Cutting through e-bike marketing hype

E-bike shopping is a mess. Every brand claims the longest range, the smoothest ride, and the best value — often on the same page. Specs get cherry-picked, "reviews" get bought, and the actual differences between bikes get buried under adjectives.

Volt & Pedal exists to fix that, one comparison at a time. We're written by an editorial team that reads the spec sheets, cross-checks manufacturer claims against owner reviews and independent coverage, and writes it up in plain language. No engineering degree required to follow along.

What we do

  • Compare real bikes, spec by spec. Motor type, battery capacity, brakes, weight, rider fit — the stuff that actually changes how a bike rides.
  • Say who each bike is for — and who should skip it. A great bike for a retiree cruiser rider can be a terrible commuter. We call that out.
  • Explain the jargon. Hub vs. mid-drive, watt-hours, e-bike classes — covered in plain English, not brochure-speak.

What we don't do

  • We don't fake hands-on testing. We have not personally ridden every bike we cover, and we won't pretend otherwise. Our guides are research-based roundups: manufacturer data, rider feedback, and third-party reviews, synthesized honestly.
  • We don't sell placements. Brands can't pay for a recommendation or a higher ranking. Product picks are based on how the bike fits the rider it's meant for.
  • We don't publish fake reviews or testimonials. Every product on this site is a real model you can actually buy.

How we make money

When you buy through links on our site, we may earn a commission from the retailer at no extra cost to you. That keeps the lights on and the guides free. It does not change what we recommend. The full details are in our affiliate disclosure.

The team

Guides are written and maintained by the Volt & Pedal editorial team — bike-curious researchers who spend too much time on spec sheets so you don't have to. (Written by "the team" on purpose: we'd rather be judged on the quality of the guides than on anyone's résumé.)

Questions or corrections? Head to the contact page — we'd genuinely like to hear them, especially if you spot a spec we got wrong.
